Emily Larrabee is a children’s book illustrator and character designer. Originally from Barnesville, GA she currently resides in the San Diego area doing her best to break into a professional animation design career and is excited about the incredible opportunities that lie ahead.

When she was a young girl she would spend hours of the day drawing, inspired by animations she would watch, particularly The Little Mermaid, which was on a nearly continuous loop. That spark stayed lit inside of her despite growing up in rural Georgia where it wasn’t realistic to pursue art as a future career. Around high school she discovered that people were getting paid to make the very animations she loved and even found places in Georgia that had the opportunities she dreamed of. From then on, she was going to be an animator, without a doubt. She graduated from The Savannah College of Art and Design and majored in Illustration and minored in Animation and Drawing.

Some of her biggest inspirations are Brittney Lee, Pernille Orum, Liana Hee, Mary Blair and Eyvind Earle. Her style is inspired by a lot of animators and designers from the 50’s and 60’s and she enjoys incorporating a lot of color, work in a simpler, shape-based style and filling in negative space with designs. She gets a lot of inspiration for her work in pop culture, such as Game of Thrones, classic old movies, Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, Autumn De Wild’s Emma, the MCU, Frozen 1 and 2, and Avatar the Last Airbender.
